So, what's the deal?
Q: Who does ABM benefit?
A: The joke around my house is "who DOESN'T need ABM?!? And, while I say it as a joke, there is much truth to that statement. Whether you have pain or injury, want to up your "game" or are looking for increased vitality, the key is in your nervous system. Making new neural connections to reorganize can benefit everyone.
Q: What can I expect from an ABM lesson?
A: Come to your lesson in comfortable clothes, ready to explore your own movement within your range of ease. Your practitioner will move your body in gentle ways and look to guide your awareness through touch, movement and verbal cues.
Q: What should I bring to the lesson?
A: socks! And, if this lesson is for your child, please bring a healthy snack, since creating neural pathways is hungry work.
Q: What does it cost?
A: Individual sessions will be $100/lesson
A series of 5 or more will be $95/lesson
A series of 10 or more will be $85/lesson.
Please inquire about payment options, if needed.
Q: Is it covered by insurance?
A: At this time, no, insurance does not cover ABM. I will be happy to provide an invoice detailing services which can be submitted for reimbursement at your insurance company's discretion.
Q: How often should I have lessons?
A: While there is no "magic number" there are some guidelines I generally follow. I always suggest trying at least 4-6 lessons when you are first experiencing ABM. Changes can happen right away, and yet new learning is fragile. We can very easily go back to our "old habits" when we experience something new and different. By giving it a few lessons, your nervous system will become upgraded, new changes can be reinforced and supported, and you will have a sense about whether ABM is right for you.
Q: How often should my child have lessons?
A: With Special Needs children, we encourage and "intensive" approach. We hope to see your child between 4-8 times within a short period, like a week. We often give 2 lessons per day. We can "flood" the nervous system with new information during the intensive cluster of lessons, then give that system ample time to integrate new learning. What is exciting is that the new learning is not just what happens on the table, or in the office. Your child's potent nervous system keeps going in unlimited directions. We would hope to see your child again in about a month for the next round of intensives. Every child is different, however, and we adjust according to your child's needs.
Q: Will I be given "exercises" to do at home?
A: You will not be given rote exercises to go home and complete in-between ABM lessons. For the individual, you can engage in the process of learning through the 9 Essentials and your own exploration and awareness. For parents you can also use the 9 Essentials to bring ABM into your home. Your keen observation and awareness of your child's changes will support and promote the process of learning that s/he goes through.
