About Cerebral PalsyCerebral Palsy (also called CP) can be described as a movement disorder caused by abnormal development or damage to the brain. Often related to a traumatic birth, it can manifest in a multitude of ways including difficulty executing movement, either low or high tone muscle coordination, challenges with speech and/or swallowing, to name just a few.
Challenges of Cerebral PalsyWhen a child has Cerebral Palsy, there are many "neuro-typical" functions that become a challenge. Whether muscles have low tone or are highly spastic, coordinating movement is difficult. Swallowing and speech can be disrupted. Cognitive functions can be delayed, but not necessarily. Cerebral Palsy will manifest uniquely in every single person.
